The Artigiano – the artisan – those that help realize the works of the modern artists and sculptors who work in and out of the Pietrasanta marble scene – take center stage with “Homo Faber” a show of epic proportions in the City of Art, starting this Saturday and continuing until early July, when the works of Botero go on display. The artisan usually avoids the limelight, working behind the scenes in the marble – and bronze – studios of Pietrasanta; they help give form to the visions of internationally known artists. This time the artists share their works and pay homage to the hands – and hearts – of the artisans. Among the artists whose works grace the Piazza, the Complex of Sant’Agostino and the Palazzo Panichi are: Igor Mitoraj, Jimenez Deredia, Daphné Du Barry, Helaine Blumenfeld, Aron Demetz, Alicia Penalba, Sophia Vari, Alba Gonzales, Girolamo Ciulla, Maria Gamundi, Anna Cromy, local Versilia artists Marcello Giorgi and Stefano Pierotti, Rabarama, Almuth Tebbenhoff, Hanneke Beaumont, Margot Homan, Fabio Maestrelli, Roberta Giovannini, Fabiano e Paolo Favresi, Erik Fransen, Alessandro Romano, Sergio Valenti, Inger Sannes, Robin Bell, Ester La Pointe, Simone Fortini, Roberta Castellari, Giuliano Orlandi, Ulderigo Giannoni.
The show includes talks, multimedia presentations and studio visits. It’s an uncanny opportunity to witness first hand the relationship of the artisan to the art-making process … in the City of Art.
The show is produced by the Comune di Pietrasanta with the Fondazione Centro Arti Visive, Artigianart Pietrasanta, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara and the Regione Toscana. With support from the Provincia di Lucca.
The show is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 7pm to midnight, and is FREE to the public.
