ALTAN “reads” Italy like few people do. His strips – featured in the La Repubblica and Panorama, and L’Espresso – are trenchant stare-downs at what makes Italy ‘tick.’ He’s been drawing since the 70’s where his work appeared in the Corriere dei Piccoli and in (one of our personal favorite comics magazines, at the time:) Linus.
His new exhibition “L’Abisso del Disincanto” … the abyss of disentchantment – has 200 of his comic panels on view, in Forte dei Marmi’s Museo della Satira. Each panel has for subject … or rather target – all of the protagonists of Italy’s recent history. All are represented – and often in not-completely-flattering ways… to say the least. We link to a gallery of works from L’Espresso / La Repubblica.
An unflinching gaze. an icy come-on. A twisted graphic line.
