Robert Hughes, “the greatest art critic of our time” … on Pop Art and Andy Warhol

To celebrate “50 years of the art of soup” we post Robert Hughes on Andy Warhol…

The influential – and controversial – art critic Robert Hughes, whose eloquent criticisms of modern art spanned the last decades of the 20th century, died early last month at the age of 74. His “The Shock of the New” remains a seminal work of criticism – it was aired in the States, on PBS, in 1981- it was produced by the BBC, in association with Time-Life Films, and shown in England the previous year.

The Guardian’s Jonathan Jones posts a loving tribute to the irascible critic, which we link to here.

We ALSO post episode seven of “The Shock of the New”“Culture as Nature” Hughes’ meditation on Pop Art.
