Auctioneering & Iconoclasmism – now blended together! Picasso’s Muse, and a Private Collector’s Collection of Ceramics go to auction… oh, and the “Conquista” Vandal … turns himself in

One of Picasso’s many paintings of his lover Marie-Therese Walter, this one, the “Femme assise près d’une fenêtre,” will go to auction at Sotheby’s on the 5th of February. The 1935 portrait is expected to fetch upwards of $56 million. His relationship with his model and muse began when she was 17 years old – while he was 45 (and still living with his first wife, Olga Khokhlova.) It ended when Picasso moved on to his next mistress, artist Dora Maar.

A rare collection of 100 ceramics by the late master – representing a large portion of Picasso’s experimentation in ceramics – goes to the gavel at Sotheby’s on March 19th. The plates, bowls, and vessels are transmogrified into owls, goats, men and women, bulls and fish. They were produced at Madoura Pottery Gallery. The art market has been hot in recent auctions – but apparently to keep it sizzling, the same Private Collector is upping the ante … and also putting-at-auction – at the same time – prints by Miró and, yes, Warhol.

Oh, and the … artist, who spray-painted “Conquista” (and a stencil of a bullfight) ONTO a Picasso at the Huston Museum (… quote, unquote: “what the f*ck? … what the f*ck… – … … Sir, you’re not allowed to take pictures here, sir!”) turned himself in to authorities after having had a show while in hiding in Mexico and posting rambling and heroicconfused statements on youtube as to WHY he … improved the Picasso. He faces 2 felony counts and up to 10-years in the slammer.
