“The Sculpture Capital of Europe” found: … in Yorkshire!

Hoping to increase tourism to the area, four Yorkshire art venues boldly stake a claim on the historic county being “the sculpture capital of Europe,” according to the BBC. The Hepworth Wakefield and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park have joined with the Henry Moore Institute and the city’s art gallery – mind you, these are serious endeavors – but we are left wondering if the management has visited Europe lately… say, in the last 2000 years?

Jonathan Jones, in his biting piece in the Guardian questions Yorkshire’s “audacious bid for (the) title…” and remands the claimants to tour some of the places where sculpture lives… like Napoli, Rome, Florence or Paris.

We controversially add: come to Pietrasanta for an aperitivo in the Piazza…
