Colleen is an amazing and unique musical force; she makes music that seems so utterly strange and yet is intimately familiar. Her new album “The Weighing of the Heart” is due to be released on the Second Language music label.
Her real name is Cécile Schott – you can read more about her development as an artist on the Wikipedia article, which we link here. She began making music in 2001, and in 2003 released her debut album, the shimmering “Everyone Alive Wants Answers.” Her music defies genres, although in some circles she’s defined as “electronic” for her use of tape loops and computer sequencing. But she’s no mere laptop “dj”… she performs her songs live, playing guitars, cellos, percussion instruments, modified music-boxes and tape loops.
It’s been five years since she released her last album “Les Ondes Silencieuses” and her new album differs from all her previous endeavors, in a radical way, in that in it she uses her voice as a primary instrument. You can hear the first gorgeous track “Push the Boat onto the Sand” exclusively on Fact Magazine. It’s a hauntingly melodic piece, and we link to that here.
