We, at Art is Life, take our coffee very, very seriously. You could say that we, as good Italians, are passionate about art … and coffee, so we’re posting today on a matter of great interest to us: the m e e t i n g of our two great passions!
Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the best-known Italian artists on the world art scene – recipient of the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2003 Venice Biennale – signs the new, limited edition, espresso cup design for Illy, Italian taste-makers … and makers of finer–tasting coffee.
The art project, by Pistoletto and Cittadellarte, is called “Terzo Paradiso” (Third Paradise). It sets out to reinterpret the traditional figure-eight loop symbol for infinity – there’s THREE loops in the new design – and brews grander aspirations for a better world, a world where art, science, spirituality and politics are united in a single, unified, monolithic … cup of coffee.
The new Pistoletto cup, in a limited and numbered edition of 850, was served on April 25th, to celebrate the opening of the new Boutique: “Espressamente Illy Louvre Opéra” and on the occasion of the concurrent Pistoletto exhibition “Anno 1, il paradiso sulla terra” which is on show at the Louvre, until September 2nd, 2013.
