“David Hockney’s Secret Knowledge” (2003, Randall Wright, BBC, Full Movie)

David Hockney, one of Britain’s most celebrated artists had an epiphany looking at art from the Renaissance. His idea, which was contested by academia from the beginning, evolved into an article in the New Yorker magazine, a book, and this BBC documentary. The film is a fascinating document of Hockney’s wonderful meditation on perception and technique, and on art since the Renaissance; bear through the aggressively intrusive google ads crammed – seemingly at random – throughout the video.

Read more about the artist’s fascinating and controversial thesis on the Wikipedia article, linked here.
