R.I.P. James Gandolfini

James-Gandolfini-Tony-Soprano

Sad news indeed: James Gandolfini, the American actor who gave us unforgettably artful and nuanced performances as Tony Soprano, New Jersey mafia boss, passed away in Rome this week, from a heart attack at age 51.

The NY Post unceremoniously – and not unlike the federal agents who dogged Tony, in the HBO series –  traced the actor’s last steps – and posted the menu of the actor’s ultima cena – last meal. We shamelessly quote: according to the paper, Mr. Gandolfini drank eight drinks, (four shots of rhum, two Pina Coladas and two beers,) which accompanied his two platters of fried prawns, served with mayonnaise chili sauce – and a “heaping portion” of Foie Gras, liver paté.

We will remember Tony, seated in front of Satriale’s butcher shop, alongside Silvio, Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri, and “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero.
