Dozens of tiny rats – in plaster and cement – sprung up overnight in Carrara. The installation is the work of students at the Accademia di Belle Arti, who want to protest Carrara Marble Weeks, a celebration and fair of all things “Carrara marble,” which is currently underway. The rodents have a website, in which they lay out their manifesto, and we quote: “We are the multitude of cement rats that has invaded the City of Marble, a teeming mass of fangs and claws, out to erode the monolith that is this provincial event, organized by a Comune that is blind to new ideas and to the young, a community hostage to the marble industry and its lobbies.”
