Creating with one’s hands – a Sculpture Symposium for “Scultori non Vedenti” (Blind Sculptors) in Carrara

The first sculpture symposium for blind artists is taking place this week at the studio Pemart in Carrara. The project is the brainchild of Felice Tagliaferri of La Chiesa dell’Arte – its artistic director and himself “non vedente.”

The symposium is produced by the Comune of Carrara and will benefit from the collaboration of the Istituto Marmo “Tacca,” which offers its students and tutors to help the participating artists. The sculptors will produce “bozzetti” (models) which will then be produced with the aid of robots – machines that will do the bulk of the sbozzatura – the finishing work will be completed by the artists themselves.

The artists are: Felice Tagliaferri, Manuela Benvenuti, Rinaldo Lombardo, Andrea Bianco, Silvia Galli, and Rossella Frittelli. The students helping out are: Gloria Gusella, Satsuki Morimoto, Francesca Corchia Giovanni Lorenzini, Simon Spurio, and Enrico Ferrarini.
