The XXIII “Pietrasanta e la Versilia nel mondo” Prize is awarded to Dashi Namdakov. The prize is given out each year for creative excellence, but also for the artist’s role as ambassador of the artistic traditions of Pietrasanta to the world.
The award ceremony, where Namdakov will be given the prize – which appropriately is a replica of the sculptor’s “Cavalletto” (work bench) – is scheduled for December 15th, 2013 at 10:30am in the Sala dell’Annunziata in the Chiostro of Sant’Agostino.

The list of winners is an impressive collection of Italian and International sculptors. Since 1991, the following have been recipients of the prize: Fernando Botero, Igor Mitoraj, Francesco Messina, Giò Pomodoro, Kan Yasuda, Novello Finotti, Junkyu Muto, Ivan Theimer, Bruno Lucchesi, Giuliano Vangi, Stanley Bleifield, Henry Marinsky, Pietro Cascella, Jean – Michel Folon, Romano Cosci, Helaine Blumenfeld, Marc Quinn, Joseph Sheppard e Aart Schonk, Knut Steen, Giuseppe Bergomi, Hanneke Beaumont, and Girolamo Ciulla.
We wholeheartedly support the endeavor, and recognize that the above list is really an impressive roster of master sculptors… we respectfully wonder “why so few women sculptors?”
