The statue in the Piazza continues to cause dismay – if not really shock.
We write again about Adel Abdessemed’s Headbutt statue – this time because the controversial 5-meter tall bronze ode to defeat has been removed from its waterfront location in Doha. Prior to its collocation in Qatar the statue was on display in Pietrasanta where it also caused some controversy.
The reason for the removal has not been officially announced, but apparently it’s not the aesthetic merits of the sculpture which prompted its removal, … rather the statue was the object of complaints by Muslim conservatives who object to the depiction of the human figure in general – claiming that it risks promoting idolatry…
