Over the years artists have expressed the need to have an exhibition space outside of the institutional and gallery spaces in Pietrasanta, open to independent artists. And over the past months several artists have taken it upon themselves to manifest their desire for this space by “occupying” the city’s Piazzas and streets with sculptures and installations. The Mayor of Pietrasanta, Domenico Lombardi, has called for a meeting to discuss the issue and is inviting all persons concerned at the Chiostro di Sant’Agostino, Thursday, the 3rd of April, 2014, at 5:30pm.
“What we want to do first is to see how much this issue matters to artists” – explains the Mayor – “after the creative interventions of Stefano Pierotti, Giovanni da Monreale, and Lorenzo Rappelli, and after a careful discussion with Stefano Pierotti, it has emerged that there is a need to promote the varied patrimony of talents that make Pietrasanta what it is.”
“We’ll try” – continues the Mayor – “to see, together, if there are appropriate spaces, and how to run them, and what form to give this new art space.”
The artist Lorenzo Bruni, who has had experience with BASE, a similar project in Florence (the independent space celebrates 16 years’ activity) will participate.
Domenico Lombardi, the Mayor will be present along with Sergio Tedeschi, from the Comune di Pietrasanta’s Istituti Culturali, and Lorenzo Bruniof the Florence-based BASE Progetti per l’Arte collective. All artists and persons concerned are invited to attend.
The meeting is Thursday, the 3rd of April, 2014, at 5:30pm at the Chiostro of Sant’Agostino in Pietrasanta.
