Everyone that’s gone to see the quarries in Fantiscritti – in the hills above Carrara- has seen the tiny “Cava Museo” of Walter Danesi. It is managed by the family today – the museum is an homage to the quarry-men and the traditions of marble quarrying in Carrara. Tests on samples have determined that Michelangelo used marble quarried at the Fantiscritti quarries for his David.
Luca Ragoni, President of the City Council of the Comune di Carrara will present a plaque recognizing the contribution of the outdoor museum, this Saturday the 19th of April, 2014 at 3pm.
The museum – and gift shop – is a fixture at the Fantiscritti Quarries; Marco Danesi, the nephew stated: “We are pleased for this recognition of my grandfather, who loved this land”. Pictured in the last photo is Walter Danesi, from an archive photo. The photos are from the Museum’s website.
