40 works by Florentine artist Vinicio Berti go on view at Viareggio’s Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAMC). The exhibition “Vinicio Berti. Opere 1973/1990” showcases the works by Berti in the Museum’s collection – which are 2001 and 2011 donations to the Museum by the Archive Vinicio Berti.
“I have tried to simplify things without falling victim to a facile populist dialogue.” stated the artist, “Art has to follow its own path, even a formal one. Form must evolve together with meaning. Every aspect of my work speaks to the drama that is our own lived life.” Berti sought to eschew rhetoric in his dynamic compositions, he belonged to the art group “Astrattismo Classico” a Florentine art movement which celebrated the vitality of the years following WWII.
The opening reception is Saturday, the 19th of April, 2014, at 5:30pm.
Viareggio’s Mayor, Leonardo Betti, along with Glauco dal Pino, the seaside community’s Culture Minister will be present for opening day celebrations, the exhibition is curated by Alessandra Belluomini Pucci.
