Iconoclasmism ____________ Rothko’s “Black on Maroon” restored

The 1958 Rothko painting “Black on Maroon” – which was “improved” by some jerks with a black-ink marker in 2012, has been restored. The stain of “Yellowism,” has been painstakingly lifted … Making lemonade out of lemons, the TATE has taken the opportunity to showoff its impressive team of restoration experts – and their 18-month odyssey in a short movie they posted on their youtube channel – which we post below.

The perpetrator, who in this blog shall remain un-named, was sentenced to two years of jail-time, but as the “Artistic License to Kill” blog points out, he is either already out or he has a twitter account in jail.

The picture above of Rothko’s “Black on Maroon” is from before the yellowism incident, from the TATE’s image archive.

You can see a before and after picture on “Artistic License to Kill,” linked here.
