Russian Art & Carrara

Stepan-Erzia-CarraraThe relationship between Russia and Carrara, Italy, has lasted centuries, and Carrara celebrates the friendship with a series of events over the summer, and into the fall.

The Accademia Alberciana recently held a conference, for Carrara Nova, during which they announced the formation of a new cultural association named after Stepan Erzia, who lived and worked in Carrara and produced striking sculptures – exactly 100 years ago. The purpose of the association is, according to Marzia Dati: “to promote Russian culture in Italy and in Europe, and Italian culture in Russia.

A Center for the Study and Documentation of the work of Stepan Erzia and others who came to the marble region of the Apuan Alps is in the works.
