The Museo dei Bozzetti in Pietrasanta is a truly unique museum. Its curatorial ethic is unlike that of other museums; the MdB showcases the models – most often plaster models – for works by some of the great sculptors working in the last 60 years in Pietrasanta.
These models are an intermediary step in the process of sculpture. They are used by the artisans in the marble laboratories and bronze foundries to produce the final sculptures. The works are housed in the Chiostro of the Church/Museum of Sant’Agostino – the juxtaposition of the works makes for surprising contrasts… it is one of our favorite museums anywhere!
Visit the MdB’s official website for more information and a complete list of the works in its collection, linked here.
The Museo dei Bozzetti hosts guided tours and other family-friendly initiatives; they have a blog, which we link here, and it is free and open to the public.
