Painting is Loving ____________ “The Lunatic,” Lorenzo Viani, 1907 – 09

Lorenzo Viani is a genius of Italian art of the 1900s. Painter, sculptor, writer, he was active in his native Viareggio and produced hundreds of works; he is often associated with the Italian Expressionist Avant-garde. While traveling to Paris he saw the work of Van Gogh – and met Picasso. He was an influential voice during his lifetime, yet he has been largely ignored in recent years. We direct you to the Wikipedia article on Viani, linked here – it is written in Italian, no english Wikipedia article exists as of yet.

Many of his works are on display at the GAMC – the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art – in Viareggio. We direct you to their website, for more information, linked here.
